Comme des Garcons PLAY Fabrics & Craftsmanship
CdG Hoodie:
Fabrics: PLAY hoodies are typically made in mid weight knits. Most classic styles are done in French-terry (loopback) 100% Cotton sweatshirting. Other styles (notably zip front hoodies) have 100 percent polyester exterior shells. There are occasional cotton/poly blends listed (e.g. 90% cotton/10% polyester).
Weight/Construction: These hoodies have a medium (220 – 320gsm) weight of fleece and the inside is loopback or brushed. They possess standard hoodie features: drawstring hood, ribbed cuffs/hem and kangaroo front pocket.
Origin:Normally production takes place in either Origin Production in Japan or the surrounding Asian factories but lines could be manufactured in Europe to fit certain markets.
Branding: PLAY hoodies bear a steady logo on the chest: a heart with its eyes, commonly an embroidered or appliqued patch of a heart. Throughout the line, the linguistics of design is extremely informal and minimalistic (solid colors or plain prints).
Cdg Cardigan:
Fabrics: PLAY cardigans are knit sweaters most often knitted in pure wool or pure cotton. The button-front cardigans are mostly 100% wool (merino). Others, especially short-sleeve or light pullover-style, wear 100% cotton knits. PLAY cardigans are not mixed.
Construction/Weight: Wool cardigans are typically fine- to medium-gauge knit (around 200 – 300 gsm) so that they feel very warm but not heavy; cotton knits are even lighter (such as a heavy tee weight). Both have ribbed trims and front button closure.
Origin: Knitted cardigans are most often manufactured in Europe or Japan. Many wool PLAY sweaters are manufactured in Japan or in Italy.
Branding: The red heart remains the same, as the logo – it is either appliqued or embroidered on the cardigan chest. The designs are mainly few color plain (black, navy, grey), and conventional sweater fits.
Cdg Long Sleeve:
Fabrics: PLAY tops are long-sleeve tops (usually T-shirts or lightweight) made of 100 percent cotton jersey. Occasionals (primarily performance styles) can be of all-polyester, although the larger portion of this category falls under the cotton category.
Construction/Weight: they are simple low-sleeved, crew neck, lightweight jersey tops (around 160 – 200 gsm of constant cotton jersey). Some a little heavier French-terry. They tend to be merely constructed (set-in sleeves, straight hem).
Origin: A lot of PLAY long-sleeves are manufactured in Japan. Even the simplest cotton tees might be manufactured in Portugal or Italy but the styling components are usually performed in Japan.
Branding: tops Long-sleeve tops have the small heart logo sewn on the chest (printed or embroidered) and otherwise are plain designed just like the rest of the PLAY.
Comme des garcons Shirt:
Fabrics: PLAY shirts tend to be all 100 per cent cotton woven. The cloth is usually stiff cotton poplin or broad cloth. PLAY does not package synthetic or blended shirts.
Construction/Weight: Button-downs of light (around 100 -120gsm) spread collar and full button placket. Cotton poplin is soft, a few of the types can be slightly textured. There are also shirts in polo style (cotton pique) in the category of PLAY polo but all shirts remain cotton knit anyway.
Origin: Most PLAY woven shirts are produced in Japan. A few collared tees/polos mixed are manufactured in Portugal or Europe, but the typical button-ups are of Japanese origin.
Branding: The shirts are not heavily branded- a little embroidered heart graph can be found on the chest. In other cases the style is very plain (solid cloth, or striped, regular fit).
